Beyond the Template is open to anyone currently living in the Nelson-Tasman region.

Entry process
Entry packs
The first 30 EOI will be eligible to purchase an entry pack containing 2 signet ring wax patterns of their choice and some additional wax.
The entry packs are to be picked up at the Refinery ArtSpace (114 Hardy Street, Nelson) between Monday 12th and Wednesday 21st December (opening hours: Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-2pm). For those unable to pick up their pack, shipping can be arranged at the entrant’s expense. Linked Creatives NZ – Beyond the Template organisers – accept no responsibility for any loss or damage during transit.
Fees
Entry fee is $10 to help defray the costs associated with providing materials and with running the group exhibition. Entry fees have been subsidised through partial funding from Nelson City Creative Communities Scheme.
Entry fee must be paid in cash if picked up in person or by bank transfer if posted. The entry fee does not include shipping.
Entry requirements
Jewellery pieces must be created using the provided signet ring templates as a starting point, made mainly of metal, and must be cast using the lost wax process.
All entered pieces will be showcased, unless number and size of entries exceed display/venue space availability.
Should a selection be required, works will be selected on originality; the emphasis being on those which stretch the boundaries of traditional jewellery practise and push the finished work further from its template. Priority for selection will be given to new work which has not been previously exhibited. If work has been exhibited previously, please state details of this in your email submission.
However, all entries will be exhibited online on our website and Instagram.
Work must be the artist’s own design and execution. Any pieces that closely reference another artist's work should be acknowledged.
Please note that entry fees still apply to works not selected for the physical exhibition.

Please note that the organisers reserve full editorial control over which information is used and/or omitted in the catalogue. The provided images will be used for promotional purposes and for the online exhibition.
Selection Process
Should selection be necessary, entrants will be advised of the outcome of the initial selection process by March 10 2023 at 8pm. On completion of the selection process, selected entrants will then be asked to submit the actual work. The selection panel have the right to withdraw work from the final showcase if it differs significantly from the depicted work in the submitted images or if it is of a quality unsuitable for exhibition, the general look and theme will be considerations to best feature a work in the final showcase.
All selected work is to arrive at the Refinery ArtSpace (114 Hardy St, Nelson) by April 3 2023 at 5pm.
Work must arrive ready for placing, with instructions/requirements, if required. All packaging must be clearly labelled with artist’s name for use when returning work as appropriate. Ensure packaging is appropriate to allow for this.
The artist’s name and title of work must be presented with the artwork. Pieces will not be for sale. However, for those wishing to have their work for sale, their contact details will be included in the online catalogue, so potential buyers can make direct contact.
Exhibition
The exhibition will run as part of Nelson Jewellery Week from 13 to 23 April 2023.
Artists will be advised of any related celebrations closer to the time. All selected work must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.
It is the project organisers’ intention to produce an electronic catalogue of Beyond the Template. Please note that they reserve full editorial control over which information is used and/or omitted in the online catalogue or shared online on social media or Linked Creatives NZ’s website. Work title and artist acknowledgements will apply in any such usage.
Freight and Insurance
Freight to and from Refinery ArtSpace, and insurance (covering both transit time and exhibition duration) is the responsibility of the entrant. Linked Creatives NZ accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to the work during transit to or from the gallery/exhibition venue and for the duration of the exhibition. Work that arrives in a damaged condition may be restored at the artists expense and only with the permission of the artist. Restoration is undertaken at the discretion of the organisers, taking the extent of the damage and time constraints into consideration.
Return of Work
Local artists should collect unsold work from the Refinery ArtSpace (date and times to be confirmed).
For those wishing to receive their work back by courier, return courier tickets must be included with the artwork, placed in an envelope clearly marked with the entrant’s name. Courier fees are the responsibility of the entrant. Works will be returned as soon as possible following the exhibition.
Use of imagery
In entering Beyond the Template, artists impart permission for entries to be exhibited at a venue to be confirmed for the duration of the exhibition, and for work to be reproduced for cataloguing purposes and promotional usage for this and future projects by Linked Creatives NZ. Work title and artist acknowledgements will apply in any such usage.
In submitting works to Beyond the Template, artists shall impart their understanding and consent of the above terms and conditions.

- Your full name (or nom de plume);
- Name of your work (if applicable);
- Media;
- Dimensions (width, depth, height);
- Up to 150 words (optional) to provide insight into the work or the creative/making process (the text provided will be used for Beyond the Template online catalogue);
- High quality photographs: images should portray the work in its best light for selection and promotional purposes. Please include up to three close-up images to show work details as appropriate. At least one image should depict the work in its entirety, preferably against a white background. Please send high-res jpeg images only, labelled with your last name, first name, and title (e.g. LastName_FirstName_Title.jpg or LastName_FirstName_Title_Detail.jpg).
- If your piece is for sale, please indicate price and preferred contact details for inclusion in our online catalogue.
- Please include a link to your social media profile or your website, if you would like us to feature it in our online catalogue.
